The Passing of Legends
They say things happen in 3's.
Tuesday, the news was released that Ed McMahon had passed away (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090623/ap_on_en_tv/us_obit_mcmahon). Ed McMahon was a legend. I don't know how many times I heard him say, "H-e-e-e-e-e-ere's Johnny!" He was getting up there in age (86). You expect to hear the news that a celebrity at that age passes away.
This morning on The View, the ladies were talking about Barbara Walters' big 20/20 special on Farrah Fawcett, due to air tomorrow. She's been battling cancer for a while. Cancer- that horrible disease that steals the life of those with so much more to give. So much more to do. I was so annoyed with The View, because they've talked about this special every day this week, and they did that with Walters' book too, and I didn't realize The View was a show where all they did was shamelessly plug their own other stuff. It annoyed me- it felt like explotation. It still irritates me. Only an hour or so after watching The View, I received a breaking news email stating that Farrah Fawcett had passed away. So sad. I hope Ryan O'Neal did get to marry her- it was so obvious that he loved her with everything he had and would have done anything for her. Tragic. She was 62. Damn cancer.
As the afternoon went on, I went about my regular afternoon and went to Tae Kwon Do with the kids. My husband stopped by to give me money to pick up dinner and get gas and he said, "Did you hear? Michael Jackson died today too."
That was a surreal moment. Michael Jackson is supposed to live forever. He's an icon... a legend... okay, a bit of a freak, true. But still. It's Michael Jackson. It's impossible to pick a favorite song by Michael Jackson, because most of them were just so good. He was only 50 years old. So tragic. I've felt sorry for him for a long time. There's a lot of pressure with fame- I would never want that, nor would I want it for my kids.
Wow, what a sad day. Thankfully the news that Jeff Goldblum had also died today turned out to be a hoax.

it was a very very sad day. The first two deaths were sad but expected but Michael Jackson was just a huge blow. It is a reality check when people from our generation start dying.
